Guest Judges Cathy Stoyko:
Cathy Stokyo is a life long ‘maker’ and dancer born and raised in Vancouver BC, where she studied fine arts at Langara College and at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design between 1991-1996. Since moving to the Comox Valley in 1997 she has been an active member of the arts community here as; an artist, dancer, choreographer, mask maker, event organizer/producer and curator. Over the last 20 years she has shown her art work (mixed media painting, book arts, collage, and 3D assemblage), curated shows, and taught art and dance workshops at; The Denman Island Arts Centre, The Abbey Studio, The Comox Valley Art Gallery and through the Denman Island and Cumberland Community Schools programs.
Guest Judge Clive Powsey:
Clive Powsey was born in Ashford, Kent, U.K., 1958, and studied drawing, painting and printmaking at The Ontario College of Art, spending the fourth and final year in an off-campus program in Florence, Italy. He has exhibited regularly in public and commercial galleries since 1981. Group exhibitions include International Waters (1991) with members of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, the American Watercolour Society, and The Royal Watercolour Society. The show travelled to Toronto, New York and London.
His watercolours have also won awards, including the D.L. Stevenson Award for Excellence (2009) at the CSPWC annual Open Waters exhibition, and Best Watercolour (1999) at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Clive has also worked in animated film and television from 1985 to 2014 with screen credits as an art director and background artist.
He has worked for Nelvana Ltd., Walt Disney Animation Canada, Chuck Gammage Animation, Bear Spots, Animation House and Red Rover Studios on commercials, animated TV series, movies and direct-to-video productions. In September 2014 he volunteered for Team Generous and with nine other animation industry artists made a two minute short movie to promote Habitat for Humanity. He has taught drawing and painting courses at the Ontario College of Art (1988-92), now OCADU, and background painting at Max the Mutt Animation School (1999-2003) in Toronto. He currently teaches drawing and rendering in a Metal Jewelry Design Program and drawing in Continuing Education at North Island College. His most recent show was an exhibition of printmaking at the McMillan Gallery in Parksville, BC.
