In 2011, SSAGS formed a motivated group of gardeners and families to create a community garden space in the back yard behind Studios A & B. A part of the Sowing Seeds Food Security Initiative, the Garden displays the Guild’s effort to
“… maintain and promote active roles in sustainable living,” as listed under SSAGS’ Conscious Community Cooperative Initiative.
This project aims to provide gardening space and materials for members of the Guild and their families who have expressed need for such an opportunity. The goal is to maintain and grow an already existing garden into a flourishing food oasis, utilizing organic gardening methods and maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and mentorship.
Ultimately, we hope to grow as much healthy produce as we can from our efforts while adding aesthetic beauty to the downtown core of Cumberland. The Garden also serves as a gathering place for the local community since it has been used on many occasions as an outdoor event space.
